School Community Council (SCC)

The School Community Council (SCC) is a shared governance council formed by the parents and staff of North Star in accordance with state law. The SCC was established in 1974 by the Salt Lake School Board, which has empowered each SCC to make decisions regarding their school. It is a cooperative means to improving the educational programs and conditions of the school. It is the responsibility of the SCC to decide all issues on the basis of what is in the best interest of the children. SCC Meetings are generally held on the third Thursday of the month, at 2:45 p.m., with occasional schedule adjustments published in the school newsletter if there is no school that day.

School LAND Trust Program

It is also the responsibility of the SCC to make decisions about funding we received from the School LAND Trust program. The School LAND Trust program provides funding to North Star Elementary based on our enrollment. This funding comes from the interest and dividend income from the State Treasurer's investment of the permanent State School Fund.

Goal: Reduce class size with an additional 1.0 FTE


was spent on salary for our teacher
$2,497 was spent for books, materials, and supplies for the new classroom
$50 was spent for scholarships for the five students at North Star to attend the academic part of summer school to achieve grade level benchmak
$41,947 Total expenditures for 2013-2014
$687 will be used in the 2014-2015 school year to continue paying for our extra teacher
